Text description provided by the architects. The Cultural Center UFG is located next to University Square, in Goiania. At the site there was a shed, which operated a vehicle maintenance workshop and a warehouse of the university. Later the building was transformed to house artistic activities. Currently, through a process of conversion architecture, the old building was adapted to enable the installation of a cultural space aimed at the performing arts, visual arts, dance, music and experimental contemporary art workshops.
The program of spaces needed to carry out the proposed functions is split into two main sections: a theater and an art gallery. In parallel, the program includes spaces for the provision of support for the organization of the main activities in an administrative area and a room for social action, which conducts activities designed to encourage, through experimentation, the interest in art.
The formal composition of the building comes down to two cubes inserted diagonally into two sides of a rectangular prism
flat on the ground. These architectural features emphasize the symbolic character of the building, suggesting the idea of being a container, holding within cutting edge creations of contemporary art.
The deployment has created a terrace adjacent to the building. The terrace has the function of providing outdoor activities and offer users, especially the theater, mobility and dynamic performances. Internally, the building was configured in three distinct and interrelated areas: a theater, and art gallery and administration.
